Self Esteem announces debut LP Compliments Please

Self Esteem aka Rebecca Taylor - who was in Lizzie's Lowdown's Ones To Watch 2019 - is set to release her debut solo LP 'Compliments Please' on March 1st, via Fiction Records.

Rebecca is one half of the indie duo Slow Club - along with Charles Watson - but this project sees her experiment with pop.

Rebecca admits it was "incredibly frightening" going it alone to make her first full-length, but she is pleased with the tracks, which she says are for "my fellow flawed, squashed and disgusting humans having a go at life".

She said: “I am overwhelmingly proud to have finally made the record that’s been sitting in my guts since I was a child.

“It has been challenging and incredibly frightening but so much more satisfying because of this.

"I wanted to make pop music for my fellow flawed, squashed and disgusting humans having a go at life. I feel I’ve succeeded. And if I haven’t, I’m hoping to make a fair few more.”

The album has been crafted with the help of songwriter-and-producer Johan Karlberg, who Self Esteem credits for making the "fastest" and "weirdest" beats.

She said: "He loves the fattest beat possible, and he loves to fuck with them, to find what would make it weirder, or that would make it dirtier — that's second nature to him, and it is to me too."

The lead single 'The Best' - which is out now on all major platforms - gives us major Charli XCX and Taylor Swift 'Reputation' era vibes.

Self Esteem heads out on a UK tour this March, kicking off at Ramsgate Music Hall in Kent on March 9th.
