The Lowdown on Madonna's Madame X era

The Queen of Pop is back!

Madonna's 'Madame X' era is truly upon us after months of teasers from the 'Vogue' hitmaker.

The lead single 'Medellin' featuring Colombian superstar Maluma dropped at 5pm on April 17, and the surefire hit has quickly amassed a host of glowing reviews from critics and fans alike, who have had the catchy Spanglish number stuck on repeat ever since.

The track is the first to be taken from Madonna's hotly-anticipated 14th studio album, 'Madame X', which is released on June 14.

The megastar is set to exclusively unveil the world premiere of her video and single with Maluma during a globally televised MTV music event, 'MTV Presents Madonna Live & Exclusive: Medellín Video World Premiere', on April 24 at 9.00pm BST / 4.00pm ET/ 1.00pm PT.

Madonna will be interviewed about her influences and the inspiration for the record by British DJ Trevor Nelson in front of an audience of her loyal fans, with Maluma joining via video link from Miami.

The 'Like a Prayer’ hitmaker will also take questions during the global event via satellite from MTV’s Sway Calloway and fans in New York City, with additional MTV-hosted events in Milan and Sao Paulo.

The 15-track LP - the follow-up to 2015's 'Rebel Heart' - has been largely inspired by Madonna's experiences living in Lisbon, Portugal and draws on her Latin and world music influences.

The album sees the superstar show off her bilingual skills, with verses in Portuguese, Spanish and English.

'Medellin' was co-produced by Mirwais - who worked on Madonna's albums 'Music' (2000), 'American Life' (2003) and 'Confessions on a Dance Floor' (2005).

Collaborations come in the form of 'Future' featuring Migos star Quavo, which was co-produced by Diplo, 'Crave' with Swae Lee and Brazilian songstress Anitta appears on 'Faz Gostoso'.

The album also sees Madonna channel the persona of a Cha-Cha instructor, who is “a professor, a head of state, a prisoner and a prostitute".

Madonna said:

“Lisbon is where my record was born. I found my tribe there and a magical world of incredible musicians that reinforced my belief that music across the world is truly all connected and is the soul of the universe.”

'Madame X' will come in a standard and deluxe version.
