Album Review: K.Flay - Solutions

K.Flay writes her way out of a dark place on third studio effort 'Solutions'.

The alt-pop star - best known for Grammy-nominated hit 'Blood In The Cut' - daydreams about simpler times before adulthood takes ahold and tackles the pure insanity of a modern society obsessed by likes on the gram and "faking" a good time.

On opening track 'I Like Myself (Most of the Time)', she sings: “Everybody wants to count their calories, and money and their likes/ Baby, my job is just to rhyme and I’m fine with that.”

Sonically, K.Flay has always mixed hip-hop, rock and straight-up pop, but this time there is a noticeable extra measure of melody.

'Good News' sees her nail each bar with impeccable flow.

On 'Not In California' the Illinois native escapes to a world unaffected by climate change and corruption.

'This Baby Don't Cry' has the vibe of alt-rockers' Morningwood's 2005 track 'New York Girls' and comes with a 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck'-style motto: "When we don't give a fuck, it's like riding a bike."

'Solutions' is a much-needed antidote to the mad world.
