Maya Delilah serves up a relatable slice of soulful pop in I'm Just Stupid

Updated: May 22, 2020

After melting our hearts with her heaven-sent vocals on recent charity single, 'Safe', Maya Delilah is back with a just as relatable slice of soulful pop with new track, 'I'm Just Stupid'.

The pop star in waiting - who really can do it all - combines silky smooth vocals over groovy guitars, laden with sugary-sweet harmonies on the playful coming-of-age anthem about your brain entering overdrive as you determine whether a lover is stringing you along or not.

Of the track, Maya says: “It’s about that feeling of being fooled into thinking you are somebody's 'special someone' when they are really just stringing you along …

"That going back-and-forth feeling in your head - do I really like them?

"Do they really like me? Am I being played?

“I thought I'd write about it to get it out of my head and onto paper, but also to show others that they are not crazy to think these things, as, come on, we all do it…”

Maya - whose wide-ranging influences include John Mayer, Daniel Caesar, D'Angelo, Tyler, the Creator and Vulfpeck - makes us all want to pick up the guitar as the dreamy track reaches its climax with an unforgettable solo.

During the lockdown, Maya has been busy creating fun animated visuals with the help of her fans and a music video to accompany the track, which she created with no budget with the help of her LA-based manager over FaceTime, with each of the sets hand-drawn.

She said: “I do a lot of art in my spare time, so I figured it would be fun to draw all the sets for each scene.

"We also ended up getting fans involved by asking them to send in drawings too, which I love.”

The fresh young star - who has amassed combined streams of 685K - is certainly one to keep an eye on.

You can catch Maya's upcoming EP next month - which features previously released singles, ‘Tangerine Dream’, ‘Gato’ and ‘U R U'.
